Google Pixel Smartphone Deals
Google Pixel smartphones are developed by Google and were first introduced to the market in October 2016 during the #MadeByGoogle event. Google emphasized the camera, which was ranked as one of the best of any smartphone camera at the time. The Pixel phones also include unlimited cloud storage for pictures on Google Photos too. The AMOLED display was also highly ranked as was the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Android operating system making it fast and reliable.
Google Pixel 2
Google brought out the Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL in October 2017. This new model was an update in the software but no so much in the hardware and consequently was not viewed as a big enough change to really warrant an immediate trade in from most original Pixel owners and didn’t woo the Samsung or Apple loyalists away as the original Pixel did to some extent. The XL model along with the updated Operating System did however move up from a 5.5″ AMOLED display with 1440×2560 pixel resolution to 6″ P-OLED display with 1440×2880 pixel resolution. The XL model also went from a 3,450 mAh battery to a 3,520 mAh battery and the regular Pixel 2 did not. Therefore the XL model represents the better deal for the second generation Pixel.
Pixel 3
Google introduced the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in October 2018. Now this represents a big jump in not just software (Operating system: Android 9 Pie; upgradable to Android 10) but also hardware and for both models this time. The Pixel 3 goes from the original (first generation) 5.0″ AMOLED display with 1080×1920 pixel resolution to a 5.5″ OLED, 2160×1080 {18:9} pixel resolution. The Pixel 3 XL goes from the 6″ P-OLED display with 1440×2880 pixel resolution to a 6.3″ OLED, 2960×1440 {18.5:9} pixel resolution. Both models also received a second front camera with 8 MP, f/2.2, fixed focus and 97° lens. Battery life also went up from the original 2,700 mAh to 2915 mAh, but actually lost a little with the XL model. Both models also have fast charging and now have wireless charging too. So for the Pixel 3 model we believe the regular Pixel 3 represents the better deal over the XL version.
Pixel 3a
In May of 2019 Google announced the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL as a budget alternative to the original two Pixel 3 devices listed above. Both Pixel 3a models have the same Android 9 Pie operating system, upgradable to Android 10 just as the regular versions do. The Pixel 3a has a slightly larger screen than the original Pixel 3 at 5.6″ OLED, 2220×1080 {18.5:9} pixel resolution, and the Pixel 3a XL is slightly smaller 6″ OLED, 2160×1080 {18:9} pixel resolution. Both 3a models have better batteries 3000 mAh for the Pixel 3a and 3700 mAh for the Pixel 3a XL. Now this is where the cost cutting occurred both 3a’s have fast charging, but no wireless charging, and max storage of 64 GB, whereas the regular Pixel 3 starts at 64 GB and goes up to 128 GB. And the biggest savings are with the displays which are Asahi Dragontrail Glass instead of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and a complete polycarbonate body instead of the usual aluminum frame with matte glass back.
Pixel 4
Google announced the introduction of the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL at an event in October 2019. The biggest takeaways from this recent model is that the displays have improved with the Pixel 4 now at 5.7″ OLED, 2280×1080 display and the Pixel 4 XL with the same size of 6.3″ OLED, but with a higher pixel resolution of 3040×1440 {19:9}. But by far the biggest changes are in the arena of speed and seamless speed between apps thanks to the new processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855, and now with 6 GB RAM instead of the prior 4 GB.
